Malpolon monspessulanus

Montpellier Snake - this snake scurried across the track in front of our car in the Sagres area of Portugal. They can grow up to 2 meters in length making it the largest snake in Portugal. They can live up to 25 years. It is a venomous snake but not likely to be harmful to humans as the fangs are set well back in the mouth. Even then the venom has a mild affect on humans.
