Talpa europaea

Mole - The mole is rarely seen since it spends most of its time underground in soil. However I came across this one in broad daylight scurrying across the footpath just in front of me at Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottinghamshire. Found in most of lowland Britain, but not in Northern Ireland. Moles have very poor eyesight due to their time underground where they spend most of their life in total darkness. They live on a diet of worms, only eating as much as needed and storing the rest in an underground larder.
