Suborder Oniscidea

Woodlice - usually feed on rotting plant material. They habit cool dark damp areas to avoid drying out. There are over 5,000 known species within the order! Woodlice shed the outer exoskeleton progressively as it grows. The woodlouse can be friend and enemy in the garden. They produce good compost by overturning soil but at the same time they are fond of soft fruit and shoots at ground level.
