Libellula fulva

Scarce Chaser - this dragonfly is about 45 mm in length with an average wingspan of 74 mm. The eggs laid in riverbeds take 2 years to develop. This dragonfly is considered a species of special concern in Great Britain due to loss of its specific ideal habitat. Almost non existent in Ireland. This one was photographed at Vilamoura reed beds in Portugal. Flying in May.
