Sympetrum fonscolombii

Red-veined Darter - Common species in southern Europe. Rarer in the UK. Males have a much redder abdomen than our Common Darter. The wings also have red veins hence the name. There were numerous Red-veined Darters in Cabanas De Tavira and Quinta do Lago in Portugal where I took these photographs.
