Cicadoidea

Cicadas - Insects made conspicuous by the deafening courtship calls of the males. They have prominent eyes set wide apart, short antennae, and membranous front wings. They typically live in trees, feeding on sap. The sound is often mistaken for crickets. Cicadas usually sing during the heat of the day. In addition to attracting a mate, the loud noise actually repels birds. Photographs taken in Ibiza during August.
