Pteropus Alecto

Black Flying Fox - this fruit bat is among the largest bat species in the world. It is native to Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. They roost mainly in trees amongst mangroves, swamps and forests. They will feed on apples and mangos etc. but usually rely on nectar and pollen. They can travel great distances in search of this food. I photographed these a Baldwin Swamp in Bundaberg Queensland. Fascinating to watch as they leave their roost at sunset.
